Biodegradable Fiber Rolls

  • The life span of the product is between 1 years depending on the climate.
  • Sizes Available: 8' X 25' and 8' X 12'

Description

Rice Straw Fiber Rolls are made from recycled rice bound into long tubular netted rolls. Rice Straw Fiber Rolls are contained in tubular black netting with a strand thickness of about 0.03 per inch, a knot thickness of about 0.055 per inch and a weight of about 0.35 ounces per foot from 85 percent high-density polyethylene, 14 percent ethyl vinyl acetate with 1 percent carbon black for UV inhibition. The Fiber Roll are 8” and have a density of approximately 1.8 lbs./ft. The maximum length is 25 feet long.

Rice Straw Fiber Rolls are used to intercept runoff, reduce runoff flow velocity and release the runoff as sheet flow. Fiber Rolls are also used to filter and remove sediment from runoff.

Rice Straw Fiber Rolls should be installed in accordance with standard details for fiber rolls (straw tubes/wattles).

Installation

(It is crucial that Fiber Rolls are installed parallel to the expected water flow and placed on a level contour. Rice Straw Fiber Rolls should always be installed as specified on the project plans in accordance with standard details for fiber rolls (wattles).)

Proper fiber rolls installation is crucial to ensure effectiveness and performance. Fiber Rolls should be placed on a level contour in a shallow trench with a maximum depth of 50mm to 100mm (2 in to 4 in.) The fiber roll should be staked at each end at regular intervals along its length with a maximum distance of 1.2m (4ft) between stakes. If more than one fiber roll is placed in a row, the end of the adjoining rolls should be tightly abutted together and not overlapped.

Vertical Spacing

When used to create storm water benches on a slope, the vertical spacing of the fiber rolls row is determined by the inclination and length of the slope. For slopes 1:2 (V:H) and steeper and 15m (50ft) and greater, fiber rolls shall be placed intervals no greater than 7.5m (25ft.) For slope between 1:20 (V:H) and 1:2 (V:H) and 30m (100ft.) and greater, fiber rolls shall be placed at Intervals no greater than 15m (50ft.)

Sediment Control

Fiber rolls are acceptable for use as sediment control and maybe used in conjunction with other soil stabilization methods (soil binders, mulches, etc.) and/or other sediment controls.

RemovalĀ

Fiber rolls are typically left in place. If they are removed, dispose of the accumulated sediment and fill in trenches, holes, or depression to blend in with adjacent ground contours.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect fiber rolls prior to and after rain events, and at least daily during prolonged rainfall. Maintenance includes replacing slumping rolls, removing accumulated sediment, and filling in rills. If fiber rolls split, tear (photo 4), unravel or become ineffective, replace them immediately.
